Spanish I:

  • We went over the grammar in Unidad 1, etapa 2, and students had a worksheet to do. Tomorrow we will review Unidad 1, etapa 3, and then we will go over all the review sheets of the week. Don't forget that the test is on Monday, Dec. 10th.
Grammar Lesson:

I. Definite articles. 
These can be masculine or feminine, singular or plural, and they all mean "the". You will have to be able to fill in a chart like this one on the test.

         el    = the
   los   = the
Feminine
         ella = the
   las   = the

II. Indefinite Articles:
These can be masculine or feminine, singular or plural. The singular ones mean "a", and the plural ones mean "some". You will have to be able to fill in a chart like this one on the test.

           un = a
       unos = some
Feminine
         una = a
       unas = some

III. You will have to be able to conjugate the verb llevar = to wear.

Conjugate the verb llevar:

Llevar = To wear

 llevo
 llevamos
 llevas
 lleváis
 lleva
 llevan


IV. Fill in the blank
Students fill have to know how to fill in the blank with indefinite articles and definite articles, know which verb to put in the blank, and be able to make adjectives agree with the noun, in masculine, feminine, singular, or plural forms.

Example: 
     Use the correct form of the verb: Yo ______(llevo)_________ una camisa.

For these kinds of verb fill in the blanks, look at the subject (what goes in front of the verb), and ask yourself if it a I, you, he, she, you all, or they, and then choose the right verb.

      Ana = she = ella
      Juan = he = él
      Ana y María = they = ellas
      Ana y Juan = they = ellos
      Ana y yo = we = nosotros/nosotras
      Ana y tú = you all = vosotros/vosotras OR ustedes (both forms are acceptable)
      El maestro = he = él
      La chica = she = ella

     Use the correct indefinite article:      Yo llevo ____(una)____________ camisa.

The indefinite article must agree with the clothing word, in masculine/feminine/singular/plural.

     Use the correct definite article, and correct form of the adjective:
                           __(La)___ camisa es ______(roja)_______ (red)

The definite article and the adjective must agree with the clothing word, in masculine/feminine/singular/plural.

V. Write sentences
Students will also have to write original sentences with adjectives of description or personality.
Example:
      El chico ______(es alto)_____________________________. 

     La chica ______ (es bonita)__________________________.

     Los chicos _____(son fuertes)________________________.

     Las chicas ______(son trabajadoras)___________________.

VI. Questions:
            ¿Cómo eres? = What kind of person are you?

Soy… y … (add two adjectives: one for your looks and one for your personality: e.g. Soy alto y inteligente.)

            ¿Cómo es tu mejor amigo(a)? = What kind of person is your best friend like?
Mi mejor amigo(a) es…  y … (add two adjectives: one for his/her looks and one for his/her personality: e.g. Es alto y inteligente.

¿Qué llevas hoy? = What are you wearing today?
Llevo … y … (add two clothing items: Llevo una camisa y unos pantalones).


Test: The first test is this Monday, Dec 10th. It will cover everything we have been doing this week. Tomorrow I will post all the answers to the review worksheets for you to use to study over the weekend. Don't forget that I am here at lunch if you need help.


3rd Grade Spanish:
  • Students had a worksheet on the weather words, matching them, and writing out the correct sentences. They will have a quiz on this in two weeks.

Hace frío. = It is cold.                        Hace fresco. = It is cool.
Hace calor. = It is hot.                        Hace niebla. = It is foggy.
Hace sol. = It is sunny.                        Está lloviendo. = It is raining.
Hace viento. = It is windy                   Está nevando. = It is snowing.
Hace tormenta. = It is stormy.             Está nublado. = It is cloudy.
