miércoles, el treinta y uno de octubre

¡FELIZ DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS!

Spanish I:

  • Students worked on an art activity for the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday, and learned its significance. They watched a video about this holiday.
  • They also had a reading comprehension sheet on the holiday of the Día de los Muertos. This will be due Wed, Nov 7th.
Homework:
  • Pick the adjectives for your poem.
  • Finish the reading comprehension sheet on the Day of the Dead.
  • Study for the quiz on 1.2 (part 2) on Wed, Nov 7th.
Quiz:

Spanish I:

  • Students went over the descriptive adjectives in the 1.2 vocabulary.
  • They had listening comprehension activities from 1.2.
  • They began a project describing themselves. They will be turning it into either a diamond poem or a rap song that they will present next week. They need to pick 7 adjectives that describe themselves, and 2 that do not. Students will work on these this week, and they will be due next week.
Diamond Poem example:
Soy Francisca
En general, yo soy
divertida y muy cómica.
A veces soy perezosa y desorganizada.
Yo soy baja y bonita.
No soy ni atlética
Ni fea.
¡Yo soy yo!

Rap song example:

Yo soy divertida.
Yo soy cómica.
Yo soy baja.

  • Students went over the bell work and the exercises from last week.
  • They then watched a video on commercials in Spanish, to help them write their own commercial.
3rd Grade Spanish:

Spanish I:

  • Students were supposed to watch a cultural video, but due to technical difficulties, students discussed the last video, and did a worksheet.

  • 1st and 2nd hour watched a video on commercials in Spanish. This will help them when they make their own commercial.

Spanish I:
  • Students went to the lab. They finished their music activity and turned it in.
  • They then used a variety of websites to practice for their next vocab quiz.
Homework:
  • Students need to finish the exercises from yesterday, that are due tomorrow: Ex 4 pg 55 and ex 6 pg 57.
Quiz:
  • The next vocabulary quiz on 1.2 (part 2) is on Wednesday, November 7th.

3rd Grade Spanish:
  • Students made a neat copy of the skit they have been writing, so we can have it up for parent/teacher conferences.

martes, el veintitrés de octubre

Spanish I:

  • Students did some of the bell work sentences, making adjectives and verbs agree, and we went over it together.
  • We reviewed how to make nouns and adjectives agree, and how to make sure the verb agrees with the subject.
  • Students did exs 4 & 6 on pgs 55 & 57. This is due Monday.
  • Then students worked on their new skits.
3rd Grade Spanish:
  • Students made a neat copy of the skit they have been writing, so we can have it up for parent/teacher conferences.

Spanish I:

  • Students had a vocab quiz on 1.2 (part 1).
  • Then they worked on the vocab words for the next quiz on 1.2 (part 2) on Wed, Nov 7th.
  • Students presented their skits, if they have not yet done so, and then began working on their next skit: which will be making a commercial in Spanish.
3rd Grade Spanish:
  • Students made a neat copy of the skit they have been writing, so we can have it up for parent/teacher conferences.

viernes, el diecinueve de octubre

Spanish I:
  • Students in 1st and 2nd hour finished the video from Monday, and answered questions on it. They then began a worksheet on the verb ser. This is due by Monday.
  • Students in 3rd-4th hour went over the worksheet on the verb ser that was due today. Then they watched a video on real Spanish commercials, and they began to write their own commercial skit. We will continue working on this next week.
5th Grade Spanish:
  • Students continued working on their greetings skits.

  • Students went to the lab at Avery today to practice for the 1.2 quiz (part 1) on Monday, October 22nd.
Homework:
  • Hours 4-7 have a worksheet on ser that is due tomorrow. 1st and 2nd hour will get that worksheet tomorrow and it will due on Monday.
  • Study for the quiz on 1.2 (part 10 on Monday.
3rd Grade Spanish:
  • Students made neat copies of their sktis, that we will hang up around the school.

  • 1st and 2nd hour did not have Spanish today because of MEAP.
  • The other classes practiced their skits, and acted them out in class.
  • They continued working on the worksheet, using the verb ser, looking for and correcting mistakes. it is due this Friday.
Tomorrow all classes are going to the lab at Avery.

  • Students finished writing their skits.

Spanish I:

  • Students had MEAP again this morning. 1st hour Spanish did not have a class today.
  • 2nd hour class worked on their skit.
  • 4th-7th hour finished their skits, and practiced their vocab for the next quiz.(1.2 part 1)
We will be going to the lab at Avery tomorrow and Friday to work on a music activity.

IMPORTANT:
  • The next vocabulary quiz is on 1.2 (part 1) and will be on Mon. Oct 22nd. Students will get their vocab sheets tomorrow.

Spanish I:

  • MEAP started today, so we did not have 2nd hour today.
  • Spanish students worked on their skit. These need to be done by next week, and students will act them our in front of the class.
IMPORTANT:
  • No homework during MEAP week. 
  • Students can begin to study the 1.2 vocab, but the quiz won't be until the week of October 26th.
3rd Grade Spanish:
  • Students worked on their greetings skit.

Spanish I:

  • Students had their quiz on 1.1 (part 2).
  • Then they practiced the words for the next quiz on 1.2. This quiz will not be until MEAP is over.
  • We went over the exercises that were due today.
  • Students began working on a skit, using vocab from the first two chapters we have reviewed.
3rd Grade Spanish:
  • Students chose Spanish first names and last names for the skit they will be working on.

Spanish I:

  • Students went to the lab at Avery. They did three activities on the text website, one on a listening comprehension, one on a reading comprehension, and one on vocabulary. Then they practiced the current vocabulary on a variety of websites.
IMPORTANT:
  • The textbook exercises, 16, 17 & 18, pgs 39-40 are due on Monday, Oct 8th. 
  • Vocab Quiz on 1.1 (part 2) on Monday, Oct 8th. 
5th Grade Spanish:
  • Students chose Spanish names and last names for a skit they will be doing.

jueves, el cuatro de octubre

Spanish I:

  • We went over the week's bell work.
  • Students had  listening comprehension activities: first on a CD and then a video, using the words from 1.1. They had to answer questions on the CD and the video. We will watch the video again next week and go over the questions then.
Tomorrow we will be going to the lab at Avery.

Homework:
  • Ex 16, 17, & 18 pgs 39-40. Due Monday, Oct 8th.
Quiz:
  • Vocab quiz on 1.1 (part 2) on  Monday, Oct 8th.
3rd Grade:
  • Students learned about Spanish names, and how people normally have 2-3 first names and two last names. They all picked 3 first names and two last names, wrote them down, and practiced saying them.
  • We will be using these fake names in their skits next week.

miércoles, el tres de octubre

Spanish I:

  • We went over the reading comprehension and yesterday's book exercises.
  • Students added the verb gustar to their verb sheet, and we reviewed how to use gustar.
  • Students began book exercises, which are not homework, and will be finished in class tomorrow.
Grammar:
The verb gustar has a different conjugation. It only uses the third person singular (gusta) or third person plural (gustan).

Gustar = To like
Me gusta     Nos gusta
Te gusta      Os gusta
Le gusta      Les gusta

1) Gustar + a verb: Only use gusta form

Me gusta bailar. = I like to dance.
Te gusta bailar y cantar.= You like to dance and sing.

2) Gustar + a noun: use gusta or gustan form

a) With a singular noun, use gusta
Me gusta el perro. = I like the dog.
Nos gusta el perro. = I like the dogs.

b) With a plural noun, use gustan
Me gustan los perros. = I like the dogs.
Nos gustan los perros. = We like the dogs.

Classwork
  • Exercise #16, pg 39. This is not homework, and will be finished in class tomorrow.
Quiz:
  • 1.1 vocabulary quiz (part 2) on Monday, Oct 8th.
IMPORTANT:
We will have a break from quizzes during MEAP. For the next few weeks, we will be doing skits, and listening activities with songs and lyrics.You can start looking for Spanish songs on pandora.com or youtube.com. You must show me your song to have it approved by me for lyric content.

3rd grade:
  • Students continued working on flash cards and the word search. Those who finished are working on a small introduction skit in Spanish.

Spanish I:

  • Go over the next set of vocabulary words for the quiz on Monday. Make note of which accents you must know.
  • Write down the verbs estar and trabajar in your verb sheet.
  • Review differences between tú and usted.
Grammar:
  • You use the verb ser to talk about things about yourself that can never change, or only change slowly over time (personality, looks, origin...). You use the verb estar to talk about things that can change quickly (feelings and location).
Estar: = To be
Yo estoy                   Nosotros estamos
Tú estás                    Vosotros estáis
Él/Ella/Usted está      Ellos/Ellas/ustedes están

Classwork/Homework:

  • Students had their quiz on 1.1 (part 1)
  • After the quiz, they practiced the words for the next quiz.
  • We went over the exs 3,4,5 (pgs 32-33) from last week.
  • Students began their first reading comprehension: reading about several hispanic people and answering questions about them. They also practiced speaking Spanish, by reading the dialogues out loud.
Homework:
  • Start studying for next vocab quiz.

  • Students continued working on flash cards. When they were done they worked on a word search/cross word puzzle.
