lunes, el veintisiete de febrero.

Spanish I:

  • Students began a review packet for the 2.2 test. They will work on this today and tomorrow, and it is due on Wednesday. The unit 2.2 test is on Wednesday, February 29th, and the vocabulary quiz can be taken any day this week.
  • Review notes for this test are available if you look at the past few weeks of this blog.
3rd grade:
  • Students continued working on their city project.

Spanish I:


  • Students finished the review questions and writing for the 2.2 unit test which will be on Wednesday, February 29th. They also had time to finish the vocabulary packet for the 2nd part of the 2.2 quiz. This quiz can be taken any day the week after winter break.

  • Students finished their test review packet, and made a neat copy to study from. All the answers they need are on yesterday's blog.
IMPORTANT: The 2.2 unit test will be on Tuesday, February 28th


4th Grade Spanish:
  • Students continued working on their country project.

Spanish I:
  • Students worked on a packet to review for the 2.2 unit test. There are five questions they must know how to answer, and a written section.
Oral questions for 2.2 Exam

i)                    ¿Qué clases tienes por la mañana? = What classes do you have in the morning?

ii)                   ¿Qué hora es? = What time is it?

(Say what hour it is, and however many minutes. The hour comes first and then the minutes).


iii)                 ¿Quieres beber un refresco o agua? = Do you want to drink a soft drink or water?

iv)                 ¿Cómo es tu horario? = What is your schedule like?

 Mi horario es __________________. (Tell me what your schedule is like: easy, hard, etc).




v)                  ¿Adónde vas a las tres y media? = Where do you go at ?

Practice Writing for Exam

  1. Practice writing about all the following things in Spanish. You can look at your notes or your book. This MUST be done on your OWN, in quiet, with no one working with you. You must each have your own version.

The vocabulary you will need are on pages 21, 47, 69,93, 121, and 143.
The verb conjugations you will need are on:
·        pg  35: ser
·        pg 39: gustar
·        pg 78: tener
·        pg 130: ir
·        pg 134: estar
·        Pg 109: regular “ar verbs


You MUST include the following:

1)      Give your name, age, and birthday (Using the verbs “llamar”, “tener” and “ser”)


Me llamo ______________. (Put your name)
Tengo _________ años. (Put your age)
Mi cumpleaños es el ______ de _______. (Put your birthday: date, then month)



2)      Describe your looks and personality (using the verb “ser”)


Soy _______________ y ___________________. (Put in one adjective for your looks and one for your personality.)




3)      Describe your family and where you live
i)                    Say how many siblings you have or don’t have (Using the verb “tener”)

Tengo _____ hermano(s) y _____ hermana(s). (Put in how many brothers and sisters you have).
No tengo hermanos. (if you don’t have any siblings)




ii)                   Say where you live (Using the verb “vivir”), such as a house or apartment and in which city.

Vivo en una casa/un apartamento en ________________. (Choose house or apartment, and put in which city you live in).

iii)                 Describe one of your family members, a parent or a sibling. (Using the verb “ser”)

Mi _____________ es ___________________. (insert which family relative: mother, father, etc, and then give an adjective for what he/she is like).


4)      Describe things you like (using the verb “gustar”)
i)                    a noun, like ‘pizza’

Me gusta _______________. (Put in one thing you like, pizza, chocolate, etc, using el/la/los/las).





ii)                   things you like to do, like ‘to read’


Me gusta _____________. (put in a verb: something you like to do, read, write, etc).


iii)                 things you like to eat (using the verb “gustar + comer”: Me gusta comer…) and drink (using the verbs “gustar + beber”: Me gusta beber…)

5)      Say what clothes you wear (Using the verb “llevar”) for different seasons
i)                    En invierno (in the winter)

6)      Describe your school day
i)                    What time you arrive (Using the verb “llegar”) at school and when it ends (using the verb “terminar”)

ii)                   How many classes you have (Using the verb “tener”)

Tengo siete clases.


iii)                 Which is your favorite class. (Using the verb “ser”)

iv)                 Give at least one sentence on where you go during the school day (Using the verb “ir” and a specific place in the school”

v)                  Give at least one sentence about how you feel right now and where you are in school (using the verb “estar” for your feeling AND for your location)

Spanish I:
  • Students reviewed ser and estar and how to conjugate them.
  • We went over the new vocabulary words and how to pronounce them.
  • We began going over the common question words in Spanish and how to use them in a sentence.
¿Qué? = What
¿Qué te gusta? = What do you like?
¿Qué te gusta hacer? = What do you like to do?
¿Qué hora es? = What time is it?

¿Cómo? = How?
¿Cómo estás? = How are you? (how are you feeling)
¿Cómo se dice...? = How do you say?
¿Cómo eres? = How are you like? (as a person: what kind of a person are you?)
¿Cómo te llamas? = What is your name? (How are you called?)

¿Cuál(es) = Which (ones)? (sometimes translated as "what" in English)
¿Cuáles son tus clases favoritas? = Which are your favorite classes?
¿Cuál es la fecha? = What is the date?
¿Cuál es tu teléfono? = What is your phone number?

¿Quién(es)? = Who?
¿Quién es la maestra de español? = Who is the Spanish teacher?
¿Quiénes son tus amigos favoritos? = Who are your favorite friends?

¿Cuándo? = When?
¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños? = When  is your birthday?

¿Dónde? = Where?
¿Dónde está el baño? = Where is the bathroom?
¿Dónde vives? = Where do you live?

¿Adónde vas? = Where are you going (to)?

¿Por qué? = Why
¿Por qué estudias? = Why do you study?

NOTE:  "Porque" as one word means "because". "Por que" as two words means "why"

  • Students did book exercises #16 & 17 on pg 136 These are due tomorrow.

4th Grade Spanish:

  • Students began their country project. They will be designing a country of their own, and drawing geographical features for it, and then labelling everything in Spanish.

Spanish I:
  • All students had a quiz on telling time. This is a quiz and can be retaken for full points if they want to retake it.
  • some students had their vocabulary quiz on the first section of 2.2 vocab words. This is a quiz and can be retaken for full points if they want to retake it.
  • After the quizzes, students had a review packet on the second section of 2.2 vocabulary words. This quiz can be taken any day this week if they are ready, or the first week after the winter break. The vocab packet is due this Friday.
3rd Grade Spanish:
  • Students began to work on their city project. This consists of designing a city of their own. They will name it, draw roads and buildings and will label everything in Spanish.

  • Students reviewed telling time and worked on a worksheet on telling time. they have a quiz on this on Monday. The packet is due on Monday.
IMPORTANT
  • Spanish I students ahve a quiz on Monday on telling time and the first part of the vocabulary quiz if they have not yet taken it.

Spanish I:

  • We went over the differences between "ser" and "estar". Both of these verbs mean "to be", but are used for specific things.
Ser:
- used to describe your looks and your personality (things that cannot change quickly)
Soy baja, morena, y divertida.

- used to describe your gender (boy, girl, man, woman)
Soy una mujer.

- used to say where you are from originally (where you were born or grew up)
Soy de España.

- used to say what your job is
Soy una maestra.

- used to tell time and give the date.
Hoy es jueves. Son las dos y diez.

Estar:
- used to describe feelings and emotions (that can change quickly)
Estoy bien.

- used to describe your location (where you are right now)
Estoy en Michigan. Estoy en la escuela.

Conjugating the two verbs:

  • Students finished their vocab sheets and some took the vocab quiz. This must be taken by this Friday.
3rd grade Spanish:
  • Students finished making their flash cards on city words.

Jueves, el dos de febrero

Spanish I:

  • We went over how to tell time. Students had to draw 12 clocks and write the time in Spanish.
Grammar Notes:
ü              Know how to tell time
1) Any time is considered singular, and you must start your sentence with
 “Es la una.”
Any time is considered plural, and you must start your sentence with
“Son las dos.”

 2) Use ‘y’ + minutes for the number of minutes after the hour.
   Es la una y cinco. (Do not say ‘cero” for zero)
:   Son las dos y diez.

  3) Use ‘menos’ + minutes for the number of minutes before the hour.
  Es la una menos diez.
    Son las dos menos diez.

4) Use ‘cuarto’ for quarter past and ‘media’ for half past.
   Es la una y cuarto.
   Son las dos y media.

5) When you are talking about when something will happen, use “a la una/a las dos

4th grade Spanish:
  • Students finished their month flip book.
