Spanish I: Practice reading comprehension (answers are included)

Me llamo Francisco Quilez Abad. Tengo diecinueve años. Vivo en un apartamento en Barcelona con mis hermanas María José, Mari Carmen, María Luisa, y Laura. También vivo con mi padre Paco. Mi madre no vive conmigo. Somos de España (Spain). María José es mi hermana menor y Laura es mi hermana mayor.

A nosotros nos gusta jugar al fútbol. Todos los domingos vamos al parque y jugamos al fútbol. También nos gusta ver el fútbol en la televisión. Nuestro equipo favorito del fútbol es el Barça. El Barça es el equipo de fútbol de Barcelona. El Real Madrid es el equipo de fútbol de Madrid. No nos gusta el Real Madrid. El equipo de Real Madrid es nuestro rival. El Barça gana muchos partidos de fútbol. Estamos alegres cuando el Barça gana al fútbol,pero estamos muy tristes cuando el Barça pierde.

Nos gusta ver deportes en la televisión. Prefiero ver el fútbol, pero a veces veo el béisbol. No sé jugar al béisbol. Pienso que el béisbol es menos interesante que el fútbol. El fútbol es más divertido que el béisbol. El béisbol es tan aburrido como el tenis. En España no jugamos mucho al béisbol. El béisbol es un deporte de los Estados Unidos (United States), y el fútbol es un deporte de España. Para jugar al béisbol necesitas un bate, una pelota, una gorra, y unos guantes. Para jugar al fútbol sólo necesito una bola.

De vez en cuando veo el fútbol americano en la televisión. El fútbol americano es un deporte de los Estados Unidos. No entiendo el fútbol americano. Yo juego al fútbol con una bola y uso mis pies (feet). Para jugar al fútbol americano, necesitas una bola y un casco, y usas tus manos (hands). Para jugar al fútbol, usas una bola redonda (round) pero para jugar al fútbol americano usas una bola diferente. Pienso que el fútbol americano es más peligroso que el fútbol.

• Students finished the bell work, went over it in class on the overhead, and turned it in for a grade.
• Students spent ten minutes practicing for the second part of the vocabulary quiz tomorrow.
• Students then went over a new reading comprehension, and spent 20 minutes of class time working on it. The rest can be finished at home to practice for the reading comprehension part of the 3.2 test tomorrow. The answers will be up on the blog today.
• Students spent the last 10 minutes of class practicing the oral prompts for the 3.2 test on Monday.

Grammar notes:

There are two verbs in Spanish that mean "to know". You use "conocer" to say that you know people or places. you use "saber" to say that you know facts or how to do something.

Yo conozco a María. =  I know Maria. You MUST use the "a" before the person's name.
Yo conozco Paris. = I know Paris (the city).
Yo sé tocar el piano. = I know how to play the piano.
Yo sé donde está Paris. = I know where Paris is (located).
