martes, el treinta y uno de enero

Spanish I:
  • We went over yesterday's exercises and corrected them in class.
  • We learned about the verb "ir" which means "to go". We learned how to use it to talk about places where you are going, especially in school.
Ir = to go

voy               vamos
vas               vais
va                 van

when using it to talk about where you are going, it is follwed by "a" and :la: or "el", depending on where you are going.

Ex.
Yo voy a la escuela. = I am going to school.

Yo voy al auditorio. = I am going to the auditorium.  IMPORTANT 'a' + 'el' turns into 'al'

IMPORTANT:
  • The quiz on the questions will be this Friday or next Monday.
  • the vocabulary quiz on 2.2 will be next Friday, Feb 10th, or the next Monday.
4th grade Spanish
  • We reviewd the months of the year and learned a song about them.
  • Students continued working on their month flip books, or began a crossword/word search exercise on the months.

lunes, el treinta de enero

Spanish:

  • We began Unidad 2, Etapa 2, and began by reviewing pronouns and "ar" verb endings.
  • We did book exercises #3 on pg 128, #4 and 5. Exercise #3 will be graded for accuracy, and all three exercises are due tomorrow.
IMPORTANT:
  • The quiz on the 16 questions will be this Friday and/or Monday. Students will be asked 3-5 questions randomly, and must know how to answer them.
  • The vocabulary quiz on 2.2 will probably be on Friday, Feb 10th, or the following Monday.
3rd Grade Spanish:
  • We reviewed the months and continued working on the month flip book.

viernes, el veintisiete de enero

Spanish I:
  • Students quizzed each other, using a check list sheet, on the 16 questions and answers they must know for the quiz. The quiz will be next Friday, February 3rd or Monday, February 6th. They will be asked 3-5 questions from the list of 16 questions, and they will be picked at random.
  • Students worked on the reading comprehension packet, If not finished today in class, it is now homework due on Monday, January 30th.
  • Students who were finished with the reading comprehension packet worked on a vocabulary practice for the next vocabulary quiz on 2.2. This quiz will be in a few weeks.
IMPORTANT:
  • The oral quiz on the 16 questions will be next Friday, February 3rd or Monday, February 6th.
  • The vocabulary quiz on 2.2 will be Monday, February 12th.

  • Students quizzed each other in class on the 16 questions and answers that they must know for the oral quiz next week.
  • They continued working on the reading comprehension packet. This is not homework.
4th grade Spanish:
  • Students continued making their flip book on the months in Spanish.

  • Students continued working on the reading comprehension packet. This is not homework, and we will be working on it all week. It is due on Monday, January 30th.

  • Students should be studying their 16 questions and answers for the oral quiz next week.

  • Students reviewed the months in Spanish and worked on making a flip book of the months.

  • We went over the questions they will have to know for the oral quiz within a few weeks. Students have their own copies of their personal answers, and should try not to lose them.

Spanish I:

  • Students worked on a practice review worksheet for the midterm. They received an answer sheet to be able to check their answers once they were done.
IMPORTANT:
  • The Spanish midterm will be in two parts. The first part is tomorrow, and the second part on Thursday.
4th grade Spanish:
  • Students had a quiz on the days of the week. They were given a choice of two tests. The more challenging one was knowing how to write the days of the week in Spanish with no word bank. In the second, less challenging one, they had to match the Spanish day of the week with its English equivalent.

¡Hola!

For the superstitious among you, there is an easy solution. Today you are Spanish!! In Spain, it is Tuesday the 13th that is a bad luck day. There is a saying in Spanish that says: martes trece, ni te cases, ni te embarques: Tuesday the 13th, don't get married and don't go on a boat(or travel)

Spanish I:Today students went to the lab at Avery to study for the midterm using the text book's online workbook.

  • We went over the 1.3 review packet.
  • We reviewed the grammar from 2.1 and began a review packet on this.
IMPORTANT:
  • The review packets being done this week are not homework. They are practice for the midterm, and we will go over each one the day after they are given. You should use these to study for the midterm which will be on Wednesday and Thursday next week.
  • We will go over the 2.1 review worksheet next Tuesday.

Spanish I:

  •  went over yesterday's worksheet on 1.1
  • reviewed grammar points from Unidad 1, etapa 2: how to make adjectives and nouns agree, how to make singular nouns plural, and the diferences between definite and indefinite articles. All these grammar points are in the midterm study guides.
  • students worked on the next review packet on 1.2
IMPORTANT:
  • The midterm will be on Wednesday, Jan 18th and Thursday, Jan 19th.
4th grade:
  • had a practice quiz on how to write the days of the week in Spanish, and also how to match them. They will have a quiz on these next Thursday.

lunes, el nueve de enero

Spanish I:
Students reviewed Unidad 1, etapa 1, using the midterm study guide (passed ourt a few weeks ago). You can find this on my Berkley website.

Students began a review packet on 1.1. They had the option of finishing it at home.

IMPORTANT:
The midterm is next week. Part one will be on January 17th and part on Jan 18th

3rd grade:

  • Students reviewed the days of the week and continued working on their worksheets.
  • They will have a quiz on this next Wednesday.

  • Students finished watching the cultural video from yesterday, and began another verb chart of "ar" verbs. This will be due by Monday.

  • Students saw a cultural video on the life of a young girl from El Salvador living in California.
4th grade Spanish:
  • Students practiced their days of the week in Spanish.

Spanish I:

  • We went over the verb chart on "ar" verbs
New lesson:

We went over adverbs of frequency:
  • You must know if the adverbs go before or after the verb, or if they go at the beginning or end of the sentence.
    Before the verb:
    nunca:  Yo nunca hablo español.
    siempre: Yo siempre hablo español.
    rara vez: Yo rara vez hablo español.
                               
    After the verb:
    mucho: Yo hablo mucho.
    poco: Yo hablo poco.

    At the beginning or end of the sentence:
    A veces: A veces yo hablo español. Yo hablo español a veces.
    De vez en cuando: De vez en cuando yo hablo español. Yo hablo español de vez en cuando.
    Todos los días: Todos los días yo hablo español. Yo hablo español todos los días.
3rd grade Spanish:
  • we reviewed the days of the week song, and practicede saying and writing the days of the week in Spanish.

Spanish I:
  • We went over the exercises assigned before the break.
  • We reviewed pronouns and the "ar" verbs.
  • Students worked on an "ar" verb chart to finish as homework for tomorrow.
New lesson:
"Hay que" versus "tener que":

These are used to talk about obligations and duties that people must do.

1) Using "Hay que":
Hay que stays the same and is an impersonal expression meaning "One must".
The second verb stays in the infinitive and is not conjugated.
Ex.
Hay que estudiar. = One must study.
2) Using "Tener que":
You must conjugate "tener' depending on who the subject of the sentence is.
The second verb stays in the infinitive and is not conjugated.
Tengo que estudiar. = I must study.
Tenemos que estudiar. = We must study.

4th grade Spanish:
  • We reviewed the days of the week, and practiced saying and spelling them.
