All About Me
May 2012
IB Unit project:
Area of interaction: health and social education
Awareness and understanding : dealing with who they are as people.
Reflection: Thinking about the kind of person they are and why they like certain things.
Making choices: asking themselves why they do the things they do, why they act a certain way, and why they dress in a certain style.
Unit question:
What defines me?
¿Qué me defina?
Significant concepts:
Self and image
Personal characteristics, what we look like, what we like, and what we choose to wear are all an integral part of who we are, or how we see ourselves.
Assessment:
Students will have a written assessment. They will need to describe themselves: what they look like and what kind of person they are, showing they have grasped the difference between "ser" , "estar", as well as using :gustar" and "llevar". They will have to show that they know how to make nouns and adjectives agree in gender and number.
Students can decide how to present their All About Me project, by either writing it out in essay style or in a poem, or even as a song. They will then present it to the class, either reading it out loud, singing it, or acting it out.
Assessment Criteria:
B - Speaking (Language)
C - Writing (Message and Organization)
D - Writing (Language)
Presentation:
It must all be in Spanish. No English at all.
You can present it in a variety of ways:
- on poster board
- in a book format
- on a power point
- in a song
- in a play style
- with drawings by the words
Those of you who are artistic can draw images/illustrations for your All About Me. You can also make up a song, perform it with an instrument, sing it in rap style, or turn it into a mini play for those budding actors/producers among you. You can use a variety of ways to present this project. You can have part of it written, part of it sung, since it will be a long project. You can add photos or illustrations you have drawn.
For now I want a rough draft done by Monday, May 13th. You can write it in English first, and then begin translating it into Spanish. You can use classroom dictionaries for words you do not know, or the textbooks.
